The media are not toys… they can be entrusted only to new artists, because they are art forms.

Global Nanolamination Centre Ltd was a performative installation making up the Future Factory Workshops 2018 at the Design Museum, London. The project explored the future of food packaging in the context of emergent nanotechnology.

The apple is a fruit that naturally forms a wax coating around its peel as a means of self-defence. Today, it is harvested and its natural wax coat is removed, then replaced by a petroleum-based wax layer and plastic packaging. Using a cellulose nano coating instead seems to offer sustainable alternatives, yet do we fully understand the implications of nano-sized technology in general?

Prior to the performance a 'tour guide’ geared up each round of visitors to experience the installation of Global Nanolamination Centre Ltd. Inside the future factory, choreographed movements were like that of a machine, taking the participants onto the automated journey of a future apple. The performance encouraged people to think about food and the way we consume.
